What is the purpose of the adverse
media check?
This information allows you know
about any negative media or news where your client is potentially mentioned. For each returned result we provide you with a link to the source of the
information to enable you to investigate further.
A general description is “ Adverse media
encompasses any unfavourable information linked to an individual or
organization that could indicate wrongdoing or risk. “
With all the information on hand
you can take a risk based approach on whether you would like to conduct business
with a person or entity knowing more about their illegal or unlawful activities
and their reputation.
This allows you to answer the question- Knowing what I know about the client do I want to do business and be associated with them?
What is the benefit of the
adverse media check?
The adverse media results are often
available quicker, even before a person or entity is officially
sanctioned or added to watchlists. Seeing the results allows you to take a risk
based approach on whether you would like to have a business relationship with
the client.
Can you get false positive
results?
If a person has common name or a
name that is similar or the same as a person who is mentioned in an adverse
media article you may receive a result where the person mentioned is not the
same person as the client, you are checking.
Our solution returns a % match to
the name you searched and whilst we try as much as possible to ensure only
relevant articles are returned, but we also want to ensure nothing is missed.
In cases like this you would view
the source of the article and apply a risk based approach to your decision to
include or ignore the result.
